WGN-TV Chicago reporter Marcus Leshock, who covers Chicago’s most interesting cultural and social offerings, swung by Abt a few days ago to give viewers a glimpse of some epic Father’s Day gifts. While we mentioned yesterday that plenty of Dads would be happy to just have a fun Father’s Day with their loved ones in lieu of a gift, we’re also pretty sure that most Dads wouldn’t refuse an 85″ Samsung 4K TV as a gift. Check out the video below to see what other hot items Mr. Leshock scoped out while wandering our showroom, and if you’re in our area, feel free stop by and see them for yourself.

The new XBOX One is poised to take the gaming world by storm!
Microsoft has just announced the newest generation of the XBOX gaming console titled, the XBOX One. First, let’s talk about the guts of the machine. It will have the following goodies:
- 8 Core CPU
- 8 GB System Memory
- 500 GB HDD
- Blu-ray Drive (finally!)
- 802.11n Wireless with Wi-Fi Direct
- HDMI In/Out
- USB 3.0
The look and design of the system itself is that of an all black feature and features a two-tone finish with both glossy and matte. The Blu-ray disc and gaming drive will be slot-loading and changing between your console and live TV will be seamless. There will also be voice-activate features. Simply saying “XBOX On”, will turn your console on and “XBOX, watch TV”, will turn on your TV.
The emphasis is not only on a powerful gaming performance, but an all-inclusive spectrum to your game playing habits. For instance, Microsoft states, “Achievements ill become dynamic and changing. They tell your personal story of how you play, not what you’ve done.”
There is some grumbling among the gaming communities over the following features: it isn’t backwards compatible, and the possibility that used games will no longer work. Microsoft hasn’t yet fully explained their “used game” policy, but we are sure it will get fleshed out by release date which will be Q$ just in time for the holidays.

Closed for Easter
One other bit of info we wanted to get out to our customers is that our store, phones and online chat will be closed tomorrow, Sunday March 31st, in observance of Easter. All of our employees will enjoy the day off, but for one hard-working fellow, the day off will be especially bittersweet: The Abt Easter Bunny. He put in his last day of work for the season today, and while he’ll miss his weekend atrium visits, he’s more than ready for some nap time. We’ll be back to normal operating hours Monday, April 1st.
A few weeks back we wrote to let everyone know that our Connect Store was temporarily closed for remodeling. Thanks to lots of hard work, the renovations are 99% complete and the Connect Store is back to normal operation. Our diligent in-house carpenters, who create all of the product fixtures you see around the store, worked tirelessly to craft all-new shelving for a more streamlined, easy-to-navigate boutique.
The dedicated classroom in the back of the Connect Store is still getting its finishing touches, but once it’s complete it will host our computer training classes and provide a quiet area for the one-on-one instruction available when you purchase a new computer.
We invite you to stop by the redesigned Connect Store, where our specialists can answer your computer questions. Or, as always, you can reach us by phone at 1-888-228-5800.

If you’re buying a TV for the Super Bowl, Abt has something to fit every budget and space requirement.
We probably don’t need to mention that The Super Bowl is mere days away. It’s a good bet that most of America will be tuning in, whether to watch a heroic battle between hotshot quarterbacks, the epic halftime show or dozens of legendary commercials. If you’ve been thinking of upgrading your TV set, there’s no better time than just before the Big Game. We had Steve P., one of our TV Sales Specialists, give us a run-down of some of the hottest TVs—at all sizes and price-points. So here’s our list of this year’s best Super Bowl TVs, whether you want to spend less than $500, or if money is no object.
The Samsung is our choice for entry-level flat panel TV especially suitable to sports fans. The 600hz subfield motion of the plasma panel displays video without the stuttering that occur when watching fast-motion on an LCD TV. The PN43E450 is a 720P TV, but At 43″ you won’t notice a difference. It’s big enough for a small football-viewing party, but still compact enough to fit in a small room, at a price so low you’ll think it’s a mistake. Call it the perfect dorm-room Super Bowl TV. (more…)
If you’re a regular customer at our Glenview showroom, you probably know we like to keep things constantly changing around here. Recent visitors might have noticed construction going on in our computer boutique, the Connect Store, and some have expressed concern that we were removing it. I’m happy to inform everyone not to worry, and the truth is that we’re actually expanding and improving it.
The new Connect Store will have a completely remodeled design, with new lighting and display fixtures, all intended to give you the best computer shopping experience possible. The room will also be expanded to accommodate more showroom area and a brand-new, dedicated classroom area where our technicians can teach you the basics about your new computer.
We expect to have construction completed on the revamped Connect Store before the end of January. In the meantime, don’t let our construction keep you from computer shopping. Our computer sales specialists and all of their displays have been temporarily located to the main floor of the atrium, where you’ll still get the same great Abt Service.
TVs were bigger, brighter and more detailed than ever before at CES 2013
If it’s electronic, and there’s even a small possibility someone would be interested in buying it, chances are that it was at CES 2013. From intelligent refrigerators to furry cat ears that read your brainwaves, you could find it all under one large roof in Las Vegas. But for all the crazy conceptual gadgets, the real stars of CES 2013 were the TVS. And this year, TVs at CES pushed the limits of technology like never before.
The big story at CES was 4K resolution, aka Ultra High Definition TV. Since the beginnings of High Definition video, the ultimate in picture quality for a home user was 1080P Full HD. Well, several manufacturers are aiming to change that, with the introduction of 4K TVs. Sony and LG have kicked off the race early, with each already offering a commercially-available 84-inch 4K TV. Sony used CES to debut both 55-inch and 65-inch, more “affordable” versions of their flagship 4K TV. LG also unveiled a 65-inch unit, while Toshiba matched both companies’ large offerings with an 84-inch 4K TV of their own, the L9300.
“Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.”
This Veteran’s Day, take a moment to think of the brave men and women who have served America in the military. It is through their strength, determination and commitment to their country that has led us to enjoy the freedoms we have today. Have a safe and happy weekend to everyone.
